Alumni: A potential cash cow

If you're not focussing on your Alumni, then you're missing out.

The usual response when someone leaves an organisation is that 'they're dead to me' and all links to that person are cut.

We say that this person should be treated the same as if a customer was considering leaving... after all, they usually are a customer too!

When we workshop the alumni moment that matters with clients, we recommend that someone from business retention is in the room. They bring a different and very important angle to alumni: cash.

Here's some suggestions for alumni activities:
- A birthday card
- Being on the sales distribution list
- Invites to launches/events
- Discount incentives
- Notifications of relevant job opportunities
- Talent referral schemes
- Business referral schemes

Potential benefits of an engaged alumni:
- They may become a boomerang employee
- They may recommend new hires
- They may recommend your services to their next employer
- They will be a brand ambassador
- They can continue to spend money with you (and not with your competitors)

All of the above supports revenue.

When someone leaves an organisation, it should not be 'goodbye' but 'see you soon'.
